The incident took place in Hartford County around 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 12 in Plainville.
Plainville Police received numerous 911 calls from residents of the Hamlin View Terrace apartment complex at 369 Woodford Ave., reporting that there had been a shooting, said Plainville Police Chief Christopher Vanghele
Plainville detectives and officers arrived on the scene and found a 22-year-old man suffering from two gunshot wounds, Vanghele said.
The man had apparently been shot while in his vehicle which was parked in the rear parking lot of the complex and had left the vehicle in an attempt to get aid from the residents, the chief said.
" It appears that the male did not live at the location and was there visiting a relative," he said.
Officers immediately rendered first aid while other officers searched the area for the suspect.
It was later learned that the suspect or suspects left in a newer model, black luxury SUV, possibly an Acura, Mercedes, or Audi, police said.
The victim was taken to New Britain Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.
Due to the proximity of the incident and out of an abundance of caution both Linden Street Elementary School and Plainville High School activated a temporary modified lockdown, which lasted approximately an hour.
"Initial indications are that this was a personal and/or targeted shooting and there was no threat to the general public," Vanghele said.
The Plainville Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the police department at 860-747-1616.
